Bullying is an issue in schools all around the world and it can result in some serious consequences for students. This is an problems that schools without a doubt can take actions to prevent. First of all a Bully Prevention Program needs to deal with both the individual students and the school culture. Schools can decrease bullying by reinforcing acts acts of kindness and modeling appropriate values to their students. A school must be fully committed to the implentation of their Bully Prevention Program, it can be implemented effectively by taking these following steps:
- Gather a committee together to develop a school bullying policy and put together bullying prevention activities.
- Survey the students about bullying
- Reach a final bullying policy and communicate it to the parents, staff, and students.
- Provide clear and adequate supervision where bullying is likely to occur.
- Provide staff with appropriate training in bullying prevention.
- RAISE STUDENT AND STAFF AWARENESS ABOUT BULLYING!
- Incorporate bullying prevention lessons into your classrooms.
- Support bystanders to take action in helping victims.
- involve parents in the program.
- Pay close attention to at risk students.
- Take reports of bullying seriously.
- Respond to bullying with disciplinary and guidance strategies.
After reading all the steps needed in order for a Bully Prevention Program to be successful it may seem a bit intimidating but, it is very worth a schools while to implement these programs. Yes, they are time consuming but what in education is not lets be honest. This is a issue that can not be taken lightly because of the consequences that can result. It is our job as educators to not only make our school a safe place for the children but also our classrooms.
